New Freedom FAQ Q: Is this service for seniors only? A:
The District Three Public Transit service is for all members of the
public. Our drivers are fully trained to provide appropriate
services to passengers with disabilities and our vehicles are equipped
with
wheel-chair lifts and tie-down points, but both young and people
without disabilities are welcome on our all of our routes along with
senior citizens
and people with disabilities.
Q: If my appointment runs late how do I get home? A:
For the benefit of all passengers the New Freedom routes must stick to
a consistent schedule. We ask that you try to schedule appointments so
that you will not be required to stay past your route’s departure time.
Most doctors can work with you to keep appointments within the
available window if you explain your situation in advance. If there is
no other option contact your driver or the reservations line as soon as possible and explain
your situation. The driver will work with you and the dispatcher for an
appropriate solution.
Q: I need to get to a location that is near one of your stops but is not a stop. Can I get a ride there? A:
To stay on schedule New Freedom routes may only deviate a very short
distance from established routes. Call the reservations line to ask
about specific stops. Many stops outside the district are served
by local public
transit services. You may be able to transfer to one of these other
services if we're not able to make your stop.
Q: Can I park my car at the bus stop? A:
District Three has no agreements with property owners regarding
parking. Many of the business owners whose parking lots we use as
bus stops will tow your vehicle if you don’t have permission to park
there. Neither District Three Public Transit nor the individual
business owners will be responsible for damage to cars left at bus stops.
Q: Can the bus pick me up at my house? A: To help as many passengers as possible the buses cannot deviate from their assigned routes.
Q: If I am finished early can we go home ahead of schedule? A:
The final decision for early return trips will remain with the driver.
He/she carries a cellular phone and should give you the number. When
you’re ready to return, call and inform your driver. If all of the
passengers on a particular day are ready to go home early the driver
may elect to run the return trip early.
Q: How can you afford to provide this service? A:
All public transportation programs are heavily subsidized by state and
federal funds. The $1 fare paid by passengers, is used as local match
for those funds. Local governments also contribute funds to match the
state and federal dollars. There are several funding streams for
transportation and each is distributed by a different funding formula.
